"San Francisco's Environmental Dry Cleaner"

Very exciting!  The green dry cleaning business that was previously in this building only lasted a few months... so it will be interesting to see what happens!

Though they're not quite open yet they have been getting some good reviews.

... heading over to see exactly what makes them so green and will report back once I've tried them out!

** UPDATE**
So I've been there and back and I love it!  All the co-owners are really cool and the staff is friendly - they even have a fabric consultant.

My coats and shirts came back clean and super fresh-smelling.  And the best part is I don't have to worry about having to air out scary chemicals - it's wash and wear, baby.

They also had a super duper pre-grand opening deal-io... but cost is no matter when you can be clean and healthy and be good to the earth too ;)

Excellent dry cleaning choice in the Presidio. I was also saddened to see the old one leave so quickly.  But I am very impressed by their choice of using reusable packaging (which I promise to return, as soon as the husband comes back with them from his trip!).

They even come on solid wooden hangers. Yeah!

Prices seem reasonable as well, compared to a few places nearby (on Chestnut, Union streets) that I've been to. Oh yeah, and I live here in the Big P so it's ridiculously convenient.  Three cheers for eco-friendly dry cleaning.

Yay!  I was so excited when a dry cleaner opened in the Presidio, then they suddenly shut their doors.

Now SF Green Clean has taken over the space & reopened in this little nook between the Main Post and Crissy.  It's easy access -- they have a super-convenient green parking zone for several cars just a handful of steps away from the front door.  They also have a mini parking lot around back.  How many dry cleaners in the city boast such parking ease?

It doesn't look big from the outside,  but once you step in, you feel as if you're Alice in Dry Cleaning Wonderland!  It's big & quite spacious  with numerous worker bees buzzing about.  There is a nice roomy reception area complete with a mini coffee/expresso bar and bubble gum dispenser.  :)   Ahhhh... I can actually breathe (and exhale comfortably ) in this place!!

They are going to start using reusable cloth laundry bags to replace the old school wasteful plastic.  And they have cute little "SFGreenClean" mobiles (Prius of course) parked around the building -- one of the owners said they may offer a delivery service once the operation is really up & running.

They have been open on a limited basis for a little while -- although by the looks of their filled clothes carousel, looks like people are already starting to flock there.  Super friendly team/owners working there.

Non toxic, environmentally sound cleaning, in a nice location  - how about that! They fit in perfectly in the Presidio!

Good for you, good for me, good for the planet!

I practically stopped drycleaning altogether after seeing a report by Bill Moyers on how it was one of the most polluting industries in America.  But I am happy to say that SF Green Clean uses safe non-toxic cleaning products that actually make your clothes smell good!  No more stinky chemicals!

And they do a terrific job: My cashmere sweaters look like new . I had one sweater in particular that had a moth hole and a pen stain and now it looks beautiful. The also did a fabulous job fixing the lining of one of my favorite coats. Plus the people are really responsive as well as being fun and very friendly.

Forget your clothes, why subject your BODY to the harmful chemicals used by traditional dry cleaners when you finally have a choice? These folks have really got their act together from their in-depth knowledge of truly environmentally friendly AND non-toxic cleaning of even the most delicate fabrics, to genuine friendly, responsive, customer-focused service.

Tired of wearing PERC perfume? I know I am, never mind the allergic reaction I'd get from my supposedly "clean" sweaters--I used to totally hate having to send them to the cleaners! What a relief to find out even my favorite boutique cashmeres can be wet-cleaned and returned to me in beautiful condition, and without the rash.

Pricing might be a bit on the higher end, but the quality of service and peace of mind that goes with it is definitely worth every extra penny. Meticulously cleaned clothes (without the itch!), wooden hangers, reusable garment bags, helping the planet, friendly people that really care: it's a no-brainer!

Self-proclaimed as "san francisco's only non-toxic dry cleaner."

This place is a keeper.

When you drop your clothes off they book them and take a mug shot of each piece.  They are itemized and posted online where you can see a 'wanted' poster for each piece of clothing.

When you pick your clothes up they are hung on wood hangers and packed away in garment bags...real ones...no plastic baggies.  Also, any items left in the pockets are placed in an envelope and stapled to your receipt.  I left $41 in cash in one of the garments...and got it back.  WTF?!

Finally, the clothes looked great.  I had a big bird doodoo on the back of one of my coats.  My local cleaner didn't even bother to check for it.  Week old, dry-cleaner baked bird doodoo...gone.

They are apparently opening a store in North Beach.  If the service is consistent they could earn another star.

Can I get an Amen!

Eco cleaning with tech savvy and a serious interest in taking dry cleaning to the next level. As I understand it, they take pictures of your clothes with specialized instructions so that the person working on each item during the wet cleaning process can address any special needs.

Reusable wooden hangers and garment bags--excellent.

What I like about this place, in addition to the obvious alternative to PERC cleaning, is the commitment to ingenuity. It's like the pre-iBook  Apple of the dry cleaning industry. You can order online and get free, semi-customized-to-your needs delivery. It helps that one of the guys who works there expressed a desire to satisfy customers in terms of "we'll suck your toes if you want." (For those of you who might be thwarted by the hygiene issues presented in a toe sucking comparison, please note that the space is uber clean.)

Why only 4 stars? They are still trying to figure their business model out and sometimes it seems like the ambitious scope of their endeavor makes the world of laundry more difficult for them than it has to be. But that downside is way overshadowed by the fact that every time I pick up my goods I think to myself "I LOVE my new dry cleaner."  Seriously, I wanted to take my out-of-town-visiting mother there as a field trip into the world of what could be when progressive industrious minds try to rewrite the rules.

Absolutely wonderful! An eco-friendly dry cleaner, I am so excited.

I discovered SF Green Clean when I saw one of their cars dropping off dry cleaning to customers. I decided to try this place out for my fiance's suit and they did a fantastic job.

Their prices are competitve and I like that they use the wooden hangers (which are better for your clothing) and the reuseable garment bags.

Definately try it out!!!

1) Eco friendly - No toxins used.. this is rarer than you think.
2) Wooden, reusable hangers - looks great, leaves no shirt creases
3) Great prices
4) Friendly service
5) Delivery and pick up that is free? They do that to! This seems like no big deal, but this means that I never have to rush to a dry cleaner before they close ever again... and I have one less errand every week.

I am sold. A+.

These guys are amazing! Sure you pay more but that's not surprising. It's better for the environment and for the family. They pick up and drop off when it's convenient for you. They have pics of your clothes they are working on so you never wonder where your things are. Everything is re-useable. And they are just such pleasant folks to work with. As a working mom with two kids and zero free time, I love these guys!

I LOVE this place.  I think they are the only green dry cleaners in San Francisco too.  The staff is super friendly and helpful.  They even take pictures of your clothes and post them online.  The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is because the prices are high.  They also give you nice, high end wooden hangers and nylon garment bags to help you reduce waste.  Oh and free pick up and delivery.  Definitely check this place out!

Clean as a whistle!!

I was taking a walk through the Presidio yesterday afternoon when I noticed two spiffy hybrids with sfgreenclean signs on them! I was curious to know what they did so I sent them an email when I got home!!

Sfgreenclean is an environmental dry cleaner!! Sfgreenclean is a full service green cleaner that will service any of your traditionally dry cleaned garments. All of the products that they use in their cleaning processes are 100% biodegradable. In addition, they are using reusable nylon garment bags instead of plastic in thier packaging. Thank you Ted at sfgreenclean.com for sharing this information with us! This is a fabulous example of sustainability.

I don’t want to even think of how many long hours Victoria and I have spent reviewing reports on non-environmental drycleaner facilities and contamination due to the toxic chemical perchloroethylene (perc), which is the primary cleaning solvent. PERC is environmentally unfriendly and when used improperly can create health and environmental risks in the atmosphere, soil, groundwater, drinking water, and waterways threatening humans, and plant and animal species.

So if you are in San Francisco, stop by sfgreenclean or find a green drycleaner in your city today!
